Below is a testimonial from his daughter Shannon Reed:

"I can't remember a time that my father wasn't a teacher or a coach. He worked long hours and is by no means a millionaire, but his hard work has made this world a better place. Over his many years of teaching, my father sometimes became everything (caregiver, disciplinarian, adviser, etc.) to the students in his care, gave rides home after practice in winter when parents seem to have forgotten students or didn't care to pick them up, and always tried to divide playing time equally so everyone felt just as valued as those who excelled. His impact, and the impact made by so many teachers, often goes unnoticed by students until they are long gone and unrecognized by parents who are busy just trying to be a parent. But I was lucky enough to grow up witnessing the difference he made in this world on an almost daily basis. His hard work inspired me to pursue a career and lifestyle devoted to making a difference in my community and in the world around me. He is my inspiration. And if I make 1/10 of the difference he made across his lifetime during mine, I will consider myself a huge success."
